Single Mother’s and Weightloss

When our children are young, it can be difficult to stay in shape. As single mother’s, we so not have the option of letting dad take care of the children while we take care of ourselves.

Here are some ideas for losing weight or keeping weight off:

  • Family walks are an excellent way to get in a lot of the needed 10,000 steps a day. Walk to the playground. Walk to run errands. Take a walk around the neighborhood before bath time in the evenings.
  • Play Frisbee or basketball at the park.
  • Put on some music and dance around the living room with your children.
  • Find ways in which you can do easy exercises with your children.
  • Invest in family exercise programs on DVD, or see what is available at your local library.
  • Go on hikes.
  • Run through the puddles on a rainy day.
  • Play on the playground equipment with your children.
  • Run through the sprinkler with your children.
  • Go sledding as a family.

Keeping active is an important aspect of having a healthy body, for both you and your child.

P.S. Can you think of any other activities?

Daily Life for this Single Mom

Some of you may be wondering exactly what it is that I do all day. Do I sit around blogging all day? Watching soap operas? Reading?

No. I am pretty busy.

Here is a general list of what my daily activities look like:

Cooking: Yes, I bake my own bread, cook meals (even breakfast at times) and make a lot of things from scratch. This saves me money that I can use elsewhere.

Cleaning: Yuck! But, yes. Each day I do dishes, laundry, clean the bathroom, make my bed and various other things to keep my household going.

Homeschool my daughter: Yeah, well, I make lesson plans and do all of that stuff, but she is 16 and is mostly learning independently. She is a smart cookie.

Work: Yep. Right now, I babysit. I also homeschool my nephew while he is here. He is 11, so it takes a lot more of my time to homeschool him than it takes me to homeschool my daughter. I also keep this blog, which pays a bill each month.

Blog: Very important, and how I got the job of keeping this blog for you.

Exercise: Walking and other activities that are helping me to lose weight.

Volunteer: I help other low-income and homeschool families.

I have other interests as well. I read, scrapbook, write, walk, planning this years garden, budgeting, sewing curtains….

I am busy.

Why this post? Why would anyone care what I do? Maybe they don’t. There are, however, misconceptions that stay/work-at-home mothers may be a bit lazy. I hope that I have dispelled this myth successfully.

Great Ways to Deal with Stress

I know that a lot of people have been feeling very stressed lately. I am no exception. I have been entirely too stressed out for just over a month now, and things do not seem to be getting better now that the holidays are over.

I would simply like to offer up some ideas for how we can all destress this winter.

  • Take a long walk. Pay attention to nature, and work whatever is bothering you out in your head.

  • Take a long bath. Do not think of anything stressful.

  • Read. I have been doing this one a lot. Reading helps me to block out all random thoughts.

  • Watch mindless television. No, really, I am watching the Love Comes Softly series, as well as other movies when I can. It does help to relax.

  • Exercise.

  • Write. I like this one. Sometimes if I write things out, they become clearer. Sometimes, I have to write stories to forget about annoying issues.

  • Go out for coffee with a friend and talk things out. I wonder how many people that my best friend and I have traumatized at McDonald’s this year due to these outings.
