Single Moms: Family Nutrition is Important

Nutrition goes hand-in-hand with Physical Fitness when it comes to our families overall health. If this is true, then how can we teach our families to eat more nutritionally?

By learning about nutrition ourselves.

Visit MyPyramid.govfor information about serving sizes. Different age groups do not need the same portion sizes. Serve meals and snacks in the right portion sizes, and in the correct number of servings for each person each day. Still hungry after the meal? Eat only fresh fruits and veggies.

Serve healthy foods only. Try not to purchase anything unhealthy when grocery shopping, but be sure to splurge once a week or month on a treat for your family. This way, they will not feel deprived.

Prepare meals as a family, discussing why each food is nutritious.

Eat meals together as a family.

Provide healthy snack choices.

Make healthy lunches for children to bring to school. Most schools are still not serving truly healthy foods.
