Do you exercise? Do your children? It is becoming increasingly apparent that most of us should be getting more physical activity in on a daily basis. Single moms benefit in that they feel better about themselves, and have better outlooks for their lives in general. They also risk less health problems cropping up on them.
Children need to learn from an early age that physical activity is important because of the health benefits. They will be a lot less likely to suffer from childhood obesity, and they will live healthier teen and adult lives.
Exercising as a family can be a lot of fun, and has its own benefits, such as creating stronger family bonds. This is very important, as the stronger your bond with your young child is, the stronger your bond with them will be when they are teens.
Many teens also exercise with their moms. My daughters go for walks with me still, and they are 17 and 19. We are able to talk about things that matter to us while out walking.
Here are some great ways to bring physical fitness into your family:
- Be sure to explain the health benefits of each activity for your children.
- Walk daily.
- Clean the house daily as a family.
- Walk to run errands within a mile or two of your home. You could also bike, roller blade, skateboard or roller skate.
- Dance around your living room.
- Get out and play at the playground, play Frisbee, or play toss.
