As a single mother, I generally have incredibly hectic summers. I provide childcare, so I work five or six days a week from home. We hang out at the playground, walk, talk, play games, do crafts, cook and so much more. I may work until four or five.
After work, I have to clean and do other household tasks. I must run errands, and spend time with my daughter.
I am very busy indeed.
I am going to help all of you busy single moms out by telling you how I prepare for my daily summer life. Here are my best tips:
- Pack the freezer. Do this with individual servings of Shepherd’s pie, lasagna, and stuffed shells for lunches. Also freeze pancakes and french toasts, and a few bags of pre-made assorted muffins. freeze fruit before it goes bad, and use them later for smoothies. Put pre-assembled homemade pizzas into the freezer, as well as a few casseroles.
- Each day, freeze the leftovers that your family won’t eat for lunch the next day.
- Pack picnic baskets the night before they are needed.
- Get up each morning, throw a load of laundry into the washing machine, spend three to five minutes cleaning each room, prepare breakfast, get dressed, take dinner out of the freezer, then hang laundry outside and sweep the porch.
- It is easy to throw food into the slowcooker and turn it on high for lunch or low for dinner. Better yet, if you have two slowcookers, you could be starting lunch and dinner at the same time.
- Spend three to five minutes after lunch each day cleaning each room.
- After dinner and dishes are finished, spend another three to five minutes cleaning each room. Make out a to-do list for tomorrow.
- Spend at least tow hours with your family each evening. Great quality time can be spent while cooking and cleaning up the kitchen after dinner.
- Spend an hour or two with your family once a week dusting and deep cleaning your home.
- Spend at least one day a month taking it easy.
These tips will be helpful to many of you. If you would care to share your best summer tips with us, please do so in the comments.
