Quick Tips for Single Moms: Preteens

This can be a difficult age, and it is important to try to keep things under control. Their hormones are all messed up, but that does not mean that they have the right to be disrespectful to those around them. Not even you and their siblings.

1. I, personally, refused to put up with crap from the girls at this stage. They earned their privileges, yes, but they could just as easily have them taken away. My older daughter, Skye, and this happen often. Zowie? Not so much. It took a long time in my home to earn back a privilege once it was lost.

2. Children of this age will still play and hang out with parents, even when they don’t want their friends to see.

3. Some may even hold your hand while walking down the street. Mine did. But don’t make it an issue when they stop.

4. Preteens will still go bowling with you, and they will still go on picnics with you. Take advantage, this may not last forever.

What tips do you have for living with preteens?
