Quick Tips for the Single Mom: Moms in the Workforce

I remember when my children were young and I had to leave them with a babysitter to go to work. I hated working outside of the home back then, because I believed then (and still do) that at least one parent should be at home with the children and taking care of everyday tasks.

Even though it is hard to leave our children and homes every day, for many single mothers it is a reality. Here are some tips to help keep you sane:

1. Spend time with your children during the evenings, and have a bedtime routine that includes snack, baths and reading and talking with your children.

2. Spend time with your children on the weekends, but also take some time for yourself to unwind. Even if it is just a hot bath after the kids got o bed.

3. Bring lunches to work. They will be healthier, and you will save money.

4. Get the kids involved in saving for a vacation each year, even if it is just a weekend at an ocean front cottage. They can save a portion of their allowance, birthday and other money. Sell crafts to friends and family. Even pick up returnables during your family walks.
