Children love to help out in the kitchen. I remember when Skye was five. Even though she needed to stand in a chair to do so, she loved to wash the dishes. I did, however, take out anything sharp before allowing her to do this.
1. Let the children sweep the floor most days. You can give the floor a good sweeping before you wash it each week or every few days.
2. Teach the children to set, clear and wash their sides at the table.
3. Teach children to scrape their plates before adding them to the dishwasher or putting them into the sink.
4. Children can wash their own dishes after breakfast and lunch fairly quickly, and each night a different person can do the dinner dishes.
5. Young children can do some cutting jobs with a butter knife. They can also toss salads.
Do you have any tips for getting children involved as kitchen helpers?
