Quick Tips for the Single Mom: Infancy

I love babies! Who doesn’t, right? Well, I would like to offer up some tips to the single mom that concern babies in their infancy. Here goes:

1. Use cloth diapers. I know this doesn’t sound all that pleasant, but you have to think about your children’s future. Already, we must send trash further and further away. And it is costing us more. And diapers aren’t real great about biodegrading. Cloth diapers really are best.

2. Get used cloth diapers (cleaned, of course) whenever possible. Have a bucket filled with water and laundry soap, with a cover, near your washing machine, be sure that poopies get flushed. Soak the cloth diapers in the bucket throughout the day, throw them in the washing machine on your way to bed, and set them to dry in the morning. There really isn’t much more hassle than there is with disposable diapers.

3. Breast feeding is highly recommended. I recommend this act. My first daughter was sick from six months on quite often. Still is as an adult. I did not breastfeed her. I breastfed my second daughter and she spent her childhood happily rarely sick.

4. You will need a breast pump if you breast feed.

5. Forget about hospital pictures. Go somewhere cheaper.

6. Learn how to make your own baby food.

Does anyone else have any tips?

Shannon
