So many people do that I thought that I would ask. Do you suppose it is any worse for a single mom than for a married mom? Please leave your thoughts, questions and advice on this topic in the comments section. Thank you.
Now…why am I asking this? After all, this is not an empty nest blog. I know this, but I recently read the book Still Going It Alone: Mothering with Faith and Finesse When the Children Have Grown by Michele Howe. I will be posting a review of this book, but I first wanted us all to think about how we will feel when we go through this, or reflect upon how we felt when we did go through this.
I have a philosophy:
My daughters came into my life so that I could teach them to live in the big wide world. When it is time for them to leave home, I will allow them to spread their wings and fly knowing that I did all that I new to do for them. I will then be there for them when they need me, and enjoy watching them mature and begin their own families.
My job will not be done, per se. However, I will then be able to live my own life. A life of my own. Pick up where I left off. Begin a new adventure, a new chapter in my life.
Though I know that I will miss my daughters, I am looking forward to my new life. To new opportunities. To some real privacy.
What are your thoughts on this?
Shannon
