How? By planting your own produce in organic soil. You can purchase bags of organic soil for a garden bed, or specifically for container planting.
Your next step is to purchase seeds or seedling that are organic. Open-pollinated and Heirloom seeds are what you are looking for here.
As for fertilizer, I don’t usually use this. Others do. Just make sure that you are using an organic fertilizer.
Now, you can garden in a bed or in containers. Even in low-income housing, your landlord may allow a garden bed next to your entry. Mine did.
Decide what you will plant. To make this easier for you, I will give two tips:
1. Only grow what you will eat.
2. Try a salad garden and herbs.
Last year, I had a salad garden. We ate salads from mid summer into autumn on most days. This year, I intend to try succession gardening as well. What did we grow last year that enabled us to have salads on an almost daily basis for (near about) free?
lettuce
cabbage
tomatoes
cucumber
carrots
That was all.
Now, if you like particular herbs, grow and dry them. They will be a lot healthier, and they will be a lot cheaper.
Planting these two types of gardens can provide a healthier diet for our children and ourselves, and enable us to save a lot of money at the supermarket.
What do you plant? How do you plant it? Share with us in the comments.
Thank you,

P.S. Planning and planting your garden with your children will provide you with quality family time.
P.P.S. Having homeschooled children help with gardening teaches important life skills as well as science. You will also be teaching nutrition while you are telling them about the different foods.
