What do your children love to do? What are they most passionate about? Are you supporting them in the endeavors?
Throughout their childhoods, people go through many changes. Their interests change as they learn new things and acquire new skills. These changes provide us, as single mother’s, with an opportunity to support the interests of each of our children.
My daughters, Skye (19) and Zowie (16) went through many such changes throughout their younger years, and are still going through them. I usually just sit back and let them go at things, offering my support along the way.
Here are some of the adventures that they have enjoyed due in great part to my support of what they were passionate about:
- They have both experimented with web sites, web pages and forums online.
- Skye played softball for the local high school. I endured this, even though I couldn’t stand how the coaches and spectators treated the girls on the team, or how other teams treated them.
- They both were given much computer time to work on books/screenplays.
- They both attended the National Youth Sports Program at the University for a number of summers.
- Skye chose to finish her last year of high school at Job Corps, and then move to Fort Kent which is a few hours away.
- Zowie joined the Upward Bound Program at the University, which helps teens to prepare for college.
- They both used to put on shows and invite many people: art shows, a circus, a play…
What interesting activities do you support your children in? Let us know in the comments section.
Thank You,
Shannon
