Preschoolers and Chores

Preschoolers are at a great age. They understand that picking up after themselves is important, and they also love to help mom. They want to be independent, and to show you that they can do things on their own.

They can successfully, for the most part, do the tasks that they learned as toddlers with no help from mom, and are now looking for more responsibilities. this is great. Chores teach responsibility and good character.

Obviously, preschoolers still need to be trained to do new chores and will not do them perfectly. But they are eager to help, which is a good thing for the single mom.

Here are some tasks that your preschooler can handle:

  • Clearing and washing his/her side of the table.
  • Wiping his/her mess up after using the bathroom sink.
  • Sweeping.
  • Vacuuming.
  • Sorting laundry for the wash.
  • Sorting socks to fold.
  • Getting him/herself dressed.
  • Putting trash in the trash can.
  • Wiping up spills.
  • Picking up the living room.
  • Stacking books on a shelf properly.

Add these to the skills that your preschooler learned as a toddler, and he/she has accomplished a lot of necessary learning.
