Spending Time with Little Girls

My nieces slept here last night. There parents went to Portland to purchase a van and a car, and I offered to take the girls. My nieces are Puss (five) and Mouse (four).

My daughters are now 19 and 16, but hanging out with Puss and Mouse reminds me of when Skye and Zowie were little.

Yesterday, in the midst of a snow storm, Puss, Mouse and I threw all caution to the wind and went to the playground. Puss and Mouse played on the equipment and made snow angels. Then we had a snowball fight! We had great fun.

We had a “special” dinner consisting of french toast, sausages, strawberries and vanilla soy milk, and later had cookies with Zowie. We also watched Happy Feet. Then Zowie did their bath time routine with them.

Today was also a big day for the girls. After breakfast, Zowie took them to the playground. They had another snowball fight before coming home.

I read to them, then they read to me. For Mouse, ‘reading’ is more like telling me what she sees in the pictures, but that is a good step for a beginning readers. Puss was reading my dragons book and was reading off difficult dragon names and countries to me. She is in the Gifted and Talented class at school.

We ordered burgers for delivery and watched The Cat in the Hat. And they ‘played’ Scrabble with Zowie. Right now they are ‘playing’ Multiplication Bingo, and they are still having a great time.
