Family Decorating: Thanksgiving

Now that Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Decorating for this holiday can be a lot of fun. It can also be as simple as spending an hour with your children.

It is important for families to spend time together, and decorating for Thanksgiving is a good way to do this. Even if you prefer to decorate the inside of the home, your children can help you decorate the outside.

What you have your children do will be determined by their ages and abilities. If you want to start traditions, this is a good time to do this. Each family member can have a job that he/she does every year. This way, each child feels that they play an important role in this holiday.

Here are some ideas for decorating your porch area:

  • String lights and leaf garland along the railings.
  • Set a basket/small bale of hay in the corner of the porch and steps. Place a scarecrow next to it, and different size pumpkins on top.
  • If you have a small wooden or wire wagon (mine is used as a planter), you can fill it with small gourds and pumpkins.
  • You can line candle holders along the top of the porch, and put autumn scented candles in them. Burn them on windless nights, or just on the evening of Thanksgiving.
  • Line pumpkins and gourds along one side of your steps.

I will try to get a picture posted of my Thanksgiving display. I decorated today, and it looks nice. I will explain everything I did when I post the picture.
