WAHM: Tips for being Organized

I am not a very organized person by nature, but there are a few things that I do on a regular basis. A few things that I insist upon in order to keep my home running a bit more smoothly. (Did you noticed how I said ‘a bit more…’)

  • I have a chore chart for my nephew. He satys here during the week, and can help keep up with things. I have his chart posted so he can read it.
  • I have another chart for my daughter, which is also posted.
  • Both charts have a ‘chore’ that says “ask mom (or auntie) if she needs anything else done.” I don’t make them do something extra every day, but it is there just in case.
  • Everyone puts away there own laundry.
  • I run the washing machine and the dishwasher every day, at least once. I babysit in my home, so these usually get done twice a day. The dryer is run after the washer.
  • I am very picky about how the bathroom linens are put away.
  • I insist that my yard is kept neat. I do not like a messy yard. The children can pick up trash, as can I. And they can keep there things picked up out there.
  • I go through periods of time, when money is low, that I insist upon following a menu. This does not happen all of the time, because I am just not that organized.
  • The cats are fed on a pretty strict schedule.
  • If I dump the whole thing of litter into the litter boxes, I have to wash the boxes out less often, therefore wasting less time. I keep it scooped so that there is not any of the bad smell.
  • I tape a plastic bag under and behind the cat bowls. If they make a mess, it is easy to clean.
  • My kitchen trash can must have a cover, and I have to have the trash taken out daily.
  • I need for chores to be done on time. My chores depend upon the completion of their chores.

I am working on a few things as well right now:

  • I need a master to-do list in order to keep everything straight.
  • I would always like to have a menu posted.
  • I am organizing the pantry shelves, making an inventory.
  • I also need to inventory and clean out the freezer.
  • We are doing winter prep right now.
  • I am trying to simplify by getting rid of unnecessary items. This is hard for me, as I am both sentimental and a pack rack.

I feel that, if these things are done, I can more easily take care of the children that I babysit. I can quickly do pick-up jobs throughout the day if my daughter and nephew get their things done on time.

This helps me to better concentrate on my job.
